SUSTAINABILITY
We make sure we are taking care of the planet, from the factories we produce to the materials we use.
Sustainability is at the heart of J&Josh. We source our materials with meticulous care and are proud to work with European suppliers, artisans and family-run manufacturers who create pieces of the highest quality that are made to last. By being committed to European production and sourcing, we have a much shorter supply chain than other fashion houses and a reduced carbon footprint.
OUR MATERIALS
We aim to use natural or recycled materials from socially responsible sources. Natural fibres are less toxic to the environment than synthetic fibres, as they are plant materials, which means they will eventually decompose – so we use cotton, linen and wool in our products. All our materials come from environmentally responsible farming, which do not use dangerous pesticides and are Oeko-Tex certified. The Oeko-Tex certification means that the textile is tested for harmful substances.
COTTON
Cotton is hypoallergenic and super-soft, making it perfect for sensitive skin. Our yarn producer abides by transparency and sustainability on their production chain by being member of the “TF Traceability & Fashion” an Italian project for social and environmental responsibility, "Cottonforlife" a CSR program that aims to promote sustainable fashion and "Better Cotton Initiative", the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world.
MERINO WOOL
Merino Wool is an exceptional natural material, renowned for its lightweight, comfortable, and durable properties. Merino sheep produce ultrafine wool, finer and higher quality than other types of wool, with stunning softness, shine and breathability to keep your little one cool and dry. Our merino wool is fully traceable and responsibly sourced. It is hand knitted in a small family-run atelier and finished to the highest standards.
LINEN
Linen is one of the oldest natural textile fibers, made from the flax plant. Flax requires very little water to grow (it’s purely rain-fed), it grows naturally without any harmful chemicals or GMOs, which makes it the most environmentally-friendly fabric. Linen is thermo-regulating and therefore comfortable to use in all seasons. Linen is also extremely durable, becoming better with each wash, meaning you will be able to pass on your boy's linen shorts and shirts when he outgrows them.
RECYCLED POLYAMIDE
All of J&Josh’s UV rashvests are made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon yarn. This is an innovative fiber, made from abandoned fishing nets and other waste salvaged from the ocean. Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity. ECONYL® has exactly the same quality and properties as fossil-based nylon and can be recycled, recreated and remoulded again and again. What’s more, our rashvests are soft and breathable for ultimate comfort and has a UPF 50+ protection.
EMBRACING SLOW FASHION
As a brand we hold a social responsibility to promote slower consumption habits, working hard to minimise the waste and pollution traditionally associated with the fashion industry. The idea behind J&Josh is to deliver parents a timeless permanent collection of classic and chic outfits for their boys, offering wardrobe essentials in high-quality materials, beautiful colours and great fits, designed for everyday ease and made to last. Our model reduces waste during the sampling process and means our products are sold over multiple seasons to eliminate the cycle of constant new product development and discounting of old stock. We value quality, durability and craftsmanship.
SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY
We are proud to work with artisans and family-run businesses who have honed their craft over generations. It is a priority for J&Josh to ensure ethical working conditions across all touch points of the business. We work hand in hand with our manufacturers and ensure their practices align with our values, offering a responsible and healthy work environment. Our suppliers hold a number of internationally recognised certifications such as:
- OCS (Organic Content Standard) certification, that ensures the “Organic Textile” status, from the raw materials’ harvest to the products’ labelling, going through an environmental and social responsible production.
- RCS (Recycled Claim Standard) certification, that ensures the “Recycled Textile” status, from the raw materials to the products’ labelling, going through an environmental and social responsible production.
- STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is an international certification system which is a guarantee of quality and ensures products are made with no materials or processes that could be harmful to human health.
- NP EN ISO 9001:2015 – quality management system.
